Child support services help benefit children by establishing paternity, establishing and modifying child support orders, collection support and promoting the means to do so. You can apply for support and collections services if:
- You are the parent or alleged father of a minor child
- A minor child lives in your household and at least one parent of the child lives away from the home
- You are owed only arrears, even if all of the children subject to the child support order are 18 or older
- Establishing parentage
- Establishing & enforcing court orders for child support, medical support and child care support
- Modifying or adjusting support
- Collecting and processing child support payments
- Locating an absent parent
- Enforcing child support when a parent lives outside Minnesota
Service Fees
Applicants for child support services will pay a 2% cost recovery fee. This fee pays for some of the costs associated with operating the Minnesota Child Support Program. Please be aware that a parent applying for or any type of public assistance is automatically referred for services and will NOT pay any fees.
Services NOT Provided
The child support office cannot assist individuals with:
- Divorce proceedings
- Custody and/or visitation
- Any legal advise or legal counseling
- Establishment of spousal support/alimony
