March 3rd, 1849- Minnesota Territory is established from lands left over from IOWA and WISCONSIN Territories. Alexander Ramsey appointed first Governor.
1849
- Captain Lee set the first survey monument in Minnesota Territory in the very southeast corner of the state. Known as "Lee's Monument", it can still be seen today near New Albin, Iowa.
March 5th, 1853- Fillmore County is established. The first county seat is located in Chatfield, then Carimona and finally Preston.
May 11th, 1858- Minnesota becomes the 32nd State.
