Healthy Communities

slider-wave
A healthy community arises from the social and environmental factors that promote well-being. Research shows that the conditions needed for health are peace, shelter, education, food, income and social justice. In short, health is created where people live, work, and play. When communities are healthy and vibrant, there is less opportunity for chronic diseases to threaten health and well-being.

Through sound partnerships, Fillmore County Public Health develops shared strategies that help create healthy and safe communities, activate clinical and community preventive services, empower people for health and eliminate health disparities. Two examples of these efforts include participation in the Statewide Health Improvement Partnership (SHIP) and Toward Zero Deaths (TZD).

In Fillmore County, local public health staff are available to provide education and resources about the following healthy community areas:
  • Active Living (Physical Activity)
  • Healthy Eating
  • Tobacco Prevention and Control
  • Traffic Safety
