The Auditor/Treasurer is elected by the citizens of Fillmore County to serve a four-year term. Basic duties of the Fillmore County Auditor/Treasurer's Office include:
- Calculate tax rates and taxes due based on the levy request submitted by the county, cities, school districts and special taxing districts
- Prepare Truth in Taxation Notices and Property Tax Statements for every taxable real and personal property in the county
- Maintain and collect property taxes and distribute the tax collections to the proper taxing district
- Work with tax credits and special tax deferments
- Administer Tax Increment Financing as it pertains to tax calculation
- Maintain special assessments for cities and townships; apply the payments for collection and remit the annual installments to the proper taxing district
- Conduct Tax Forfeiture Land Sales on behalf of the county
- Maintain the tax roll through updates to ownership, splits and transfers
- Chief Elections Administrator for the county
- Process liquor, gambling, auctioneer and tobacco licenses
- Responsible for Fillmore County Vital Statistics which provides records of births, death and marriages
- Registration of Notary Commissions for the State of Minnesota
- Responsible for passport administration
The Auditor/Treasurer's Office is required by law to maintain records for all funds received and expended.
