2003 Nutrient Management Assessment of Producers in the South Branch of the Root River

In 2003, the MN Department of Agriculture interviewed 61 randomly selected farmers in the South Branch Root River Watershed Project area. The farmers answered questions about their current farming practices related to management of nutrients, manure, pests, and tillage. Results from those interviews are summarized in this report and are being used to guide watershed project programs that provide assistance to landowners for their management needs. Clean Water Partnership Phase I Diagnostic Study - This report summarizes the findings from the Phase I Diagnostic Study and includes several data maps. The Phase I Diagnostic Study was funded by a $61,500 Clean Water Partnership Grant from the MN Pollution Control Agency awarded to the project in 1998. The four-year study was done to determine the condition of the streams and the watershed by assessing water quality, land use, wetlands, and other factors affecting water quality and quantity. The results of the Phase I study were used as a basis for a second phase of funding from a federal Clean Water Act Section 319 grant for implementation of land use practices to address some of the water quality concerns that were documented in Phase I.
